Kate Baldwin, Stephanie J. Block, Christian Hebel & More Set for FIDDLER AT 50 Symphony Space Gala, 4/28

On April 28, Symphony Space will host its spring gala, Fiddler at 50, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Fiddler on the Roof. The evening will honor Sheldon Harnick, the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning lyricist behind the iconic musical.

The evening will be hosted by BD Wong. Performers includeKate BaldwinChristina BiancoStephanie J. The concert performance of Fiddler at 50 will be produced and directed by Jim Caruso and John McDaniel. The previously announced Joanna Gleason will unfortunately not be performing.

Christian is a Master Teacher for YoungArts. The National YoungArts Foundation identifies and supports the next generation of artists, and contributes to the cultural vitality of the nation by investing in the artistic development of talented young artists in the literary, performing, visual and design arts. YoungArts provides emerging artists (ages 15-18 or grades 10-12) with life-changing experiences with renowned mentors, access to significant scholarships, national recognition, and other opportunities throughout their careers to help ensure that the nation’s most outstanding young artists are encouraged to pursue careers in the arts. Support is offered in ten artistic disciplines: cinematic arts, dance, design arts, jazz, music, photography, theater, visual arts, voice and writing.

Christian Hebel to play "The Fiddler" for the 50th Anniversary celebration of Fiddler on the Roof.

Symphony Space will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the classic musical Fiddler on the Roof with Fiddler at 50, a gala concert honoring the show's lyricist, Sheldon Harnick, on April 28, 2014.

Hosted by BD Wong, the evening will feature performances by Broadway veterans Kate Baldwin (Big Fish), Stephanie J. Block (Little Miss Sunshine), Len Cariou (Blue Bloods), Linda Lavin (The Lyons), Megan McGinnis (Little Women), jazz singer Jane Monheit, Andrew Rannells (Girls), and Leslie Uggams (On Golden Pond). Violinist Christian Hebel will perform the role of the Fiddler. Fiddler on the Roof, which premiered on Broadway in 1964, features lyrics by Harnick, music by Jerry Bock, and a book by Joseph Stein.

Fiddler at 50 is produced and directed by Jim Caruso and John McDaniel, and the gala is cochaired by Lenore Davis and Amy Wilson. The evening will take place at Capitale on Manhattan's Lower East Side.
