Video: NY Theater Music Festival

In July I performed in a one-night-only concert celebrating the Pultizer and Tony-winning Next to Normal.  I originated the violin role for this magnificent musical and this concert combined Tom Kitt, the composer, on piano with cast and band members from all the past productions of the show. Here's a video from that performance.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival presented Tom Kitt and Friends, a one-night-only concert celebrating the Pultizer and Tony-winning Next to Normal which originated at NYMF as Feeling Electric. On hand were Alice Ripley, Jennifer Damiano and Louis Hobson from the Broadway cast, Amy Spanger, Joe Cassidy, (both from the 2005 Feeling Electric cast), Ben Schrader (the 2002 workshop cast) and more who sang iconic tunes like "Superboy and the Invisible Girl" and "I Miss the Mountains" as well as cut songs like "Blue Skies and Sunshine" and "Growing Up Unstable." The band featured Christian Hebel (violin), Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf (cello), Brian Hamm (bass), Trey Files (drums), Eric B. Davis (guitar) and Kitt himself on piano.

Spring Awakening on Broadway

I was so honored to be part of the Deaf West Theater’s production of SPRING AWAKENING in Los Angeles, which floored the critics when it premiered in California. Now this brilliant production is coming to Broadway in New York!  I am on the creative team as Music Coordinator and will also be playing violin on stage in the show every night.

Deaf West’s innovative new production takes this already revolutionary musical to electrifying new heights by choreographing sign language into the production, intensifying the rift between the lost and longing teenagers and the adults who refuse to hear them. Directed by Michael Arden, Deaf West’s SPRING AWAKENING is full of knockout performances, explosive music and soul-stirring emotion, but it’s only on Broadway through January 9.

You don't want to miss this limited 18 weeks Broadway run of this spectacular show. Opening night for previews is on September 8, 2015 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.  Opening night is on September 27, 2015. For more information, visit www.springawakeningthemusical.com.

Christian Hebel at NY Theater Music Festival

I am looking forward to playing violin for Next to Normal during the New York Musical Theater Festival. For one night only, the show will take place at PTC Performance Space (555 W. 42nd Street, New York, NY 10036) on Monday, July 13 at 8:00 pm.

Broadway's Next To Normal, which won the Pulitzer in 2009, originated in 2005 at NYMF as Feeling Electric which I was a part of. I had the honor of  originating the violin music in both Feeling Electric and Next to Normal.

Spring Awakening Opening Night - May 28, 2015

I  am so proud of this production. We have opening night tonight of Spring Awakening. This cast, these musicians, the crew, this creative team, are a special bunch and each so extremely talented. It is a privilege to share the stage with them every night and be creative with one another. I have been very lucky to be a part of some very brilliant pieces of theater from the very beginning stages such as The Last Five Years, A Light in the Piazza, Wicked, Next To Normal. Even though this is a revival, it is being done in an entirely new and beautiful way. I am confident you will be hearing more about this production. It is something special. ‪

The show runs till June 7, 2015.  Don't miss out on this special show! Tickets are still available, click here for information.

Rachael Harris Elopes with Christian Hebel – with Neil Patrick Harris as Their Witness!

Musician Christian Hebel’s proposal to actress Rachael Harris was perfectly romantic.

He popped the question in Capri, Italy, after the couple attended the wedding of pals Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka.

About eight months later, they said “I do” in a more low-key – but every bit as special – way, eloping with a small ceremony at New York’s City Hall, their rep tells PEOPLE.

Harris, Burtka and Kelly Ripa served as witnesses. After exchanging vows, the newlyweds took the subway for lunch at Gramercy Tavern.

”It was a beautiful, sunny spring day!” the rep says.

Christian Hebel in Spring Awakening 2015 Los Angeles
